The Great Train Race by Ian Clarke: Nina Perlove, flute
30 Oct 2008 Nina Perlove performing live. This piece is for "the flute as you don't usually hear it." It uses several tricky extended techniques including multiphonics, flutter tongue, harmonics, quarter tones, singing and playing, dynamic extremes, and some seriously fast articulation. Unless you are familiar with these techniques, please don't send me comments saying that my tone sounds strange--listen for the effect being created through the use of these techniques. I have to admit I am a little disappointed with how the piece comes through on the recording. My sound engineering does not do this very cool piece justice.
